Anatomy Week One
A 5.5 hr. class is really tough to pace. I've taught 3 hr. classes and those are hard—5.5 hr. = almost impossible. .. but that's how it is.
Week one was some admin., a quick intro to the idea of studying anatomy, a discussion of proportion, and a whole lot of armature building. The students had not done much armature building so that part of the equation took longer than I might have anticipated. They were cool about it.
The armature building is fun for me but it's a task that can be challenging for people who haven't done it before or just want to get to the fun stuff. Now that it's done though we can cruise and spend the rest of the class learning about the human form. I've decided to structure the class so it's two parts. The first half is building an ecorche model in clay and the second half is drawing from the model. I think/hope this will keep it from getting dull over the long expanse of time... if not I'll have to adjust on the fly.
